Nauticus is a maritime discovery center located along the waterfront in downtown, Norfolk offering a unique form of experiential learning for all ages. Through interactive exhibits and STEM to STERN programming, Nauticus uses the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, sailing center, and Schooner Virginia to tell the story of the maritime environment, industry, and the military.

The City of Norfolk, Maritime Center Nauticus is seeking to hire a Deputy Director of Operations and Administration. This position plays a critical leadership role at Nauticus by directing the museum's operations with a focus on efficiency, coordinating interdepartmental collaboration, cultivating teamwork, and leading change management. Reporting directly to and working closely with the executive director, this individual is responsible for overseeing guest service functions, exhibits, facility / department operations, capital improvement projects, administrative functions, and internal processes. The position also supports strategic initiatives to improve efficiency, compliance, and performance, and serves as a primary liaison with the City of Norfolk.

Department Hiring Salary Range : $97,126 - $167,415

Essential functions include but are not limited to :

• Serves as the leader of the organization's day-to-day operations.
• Identifies best practices and improves internal systems throughout the organization with an eye toward future needs and budget realities.
• Serves as primary liaison with all departments within the City of Norfolk.
• Oversee city budget, accounting, financial reporting and compliance
• Manages HR policies, staff onboarding, and payroll
• Provides guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to foster a high-performing and engaged team at all levels.
• Leads by mentoring, informal coaching, collegial leadership support; visible, approachable sounding board / resource for all staff
• Oversee administrative processes
• Builds strong internal service culture focused on teamwork and accountability
• Evaluates the effectiveness of specific programs to determine if objectives are being met.
• Manages and participates in the development and administration of the budget.
• Acts as Department Director when Director is absent.
• Perform specific tasks assigned by the Director, as needed.

Education / Experience :

Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Master's degree-level of study, preferably in the area assigned. Five years' experience in a related field, preferably in a management capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Education / Experience :
