Position description

The Division of Biomedical Sciences within the School of Medicine at the University of California Riverside is seeking to hire faculty at the rank of tenured Associate or Full Professor. We are looking for accomplished biomedical researchers with active funded biomedical research programs with applications to human health and disease in cancer, cardiovascular disease & vascular biology, computational biology, developmental biology, host-pathogen interactions, human physiology, toxicology or RNA biology. Preference will be given to those individuals examining the molecular mechanisms of human disease who are committed to a collaborative approach to research, and who are experts in their specific disease models. The successful candidates will have a primary appointment in the Division of Biomedical Sciences (biomed.ucr.edu).

The School of Medicine at UCR is the sixth University of California Medical School and serves the rapidly growing and dynamic Inland Southern California region by training a much-needed physician workforce and catalyzing innovations in research, education, and health care delivery that will improve the health of medically underserved populations. Laboratory and office space will be in the Gold-LEED School of Medicine research building. Areas of research within the Division include addiction, cancer biology, drug discovery, endocrinology, GI physiology & disorders, pulmonology, integrative immunology, host-pathogen interactions, neurodegeneration, neurodevelopmental disorders and RNA biology. School of Medicine has 7 research centers: Center for Cannabinoid Research, Center for Glial-Neuronal Interactions, Center for Healthy Communities, Center for Health Disparities Research, Center for Molecular and Translational Medicine, Center for RNA Biology & Medicine and Community Responsive and Engaged Equity Research (CREER) in Mental Health Center. The Division of Biomedical Sciences sponsors an innovative Ph.D. program that integrates the core medical curriculum with biomedical graduate training and research, as well as a vibrant Master's Degree and post-baccalaureate program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the medical curriculum and actively participate in the Biomedical Sciences graduate program. Joint appointments in SOM Division of Clinical Sciences are available for candidates with active clinical practices.

UCR is a world-class research university with an exceptionally diverse undergraduate student body. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The appropriate rank at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience. After appointment, advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input. The University of California, Riverside is situated in a historic citrus-growing area surrounded by mountain ranges. Riverside is about an hour away from ski slopes, surfing, or hiking in mountain or desert environments, and housing in the area is very affordable. The campus is also located in a prime position to take advantage of the other universities, research institutes, and biotech industries present in Southern California.
