Job Description

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Assistant Professor of Social Psychology to begin Fall 2026.

This is a tenure-track assistant professor (9-month faculty position). Primary duties will include (1) engaging in original research that leads to peer-reviewed presentations and publications in scholarly outlets; (2) teaching a variety of psychology undergraduate and graduate courses, including social psychology. Teaching load: 12 SCH for the 1st and 2nd academic years; 15 SCH for the 3rd academic year, and 18 SCH for the 4th-6th academic years; (3) actively pursuing external research grant funding to maintain a sound research agenda. Duties also include serving on departmental, university, and professional committees; and actively participating in department, college, and university initiatives. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

The Department of Psychology and Communication offers a BA in Psychology, an MS in Psychology, and a MA in Counseling Psychology

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a Doctorate in Psychology or closely related field although candidates with a specialization in social psychology are strongly encouraged to apply. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before the start of the fall 2026 semester. We strongly encourage candidates with (1) a strong record of or potential for sustained publication in peer reviewed journals, (2) potential for or prior experience with seeking and/or securing external grant funding, (3) a desire to work with different student populations, and (4) the ability to teach in areas that advance, complement or strengthen our programs. We welcome candidates researching bilingual-bicultural communities and experts in areas like attitudes and social influence, prosocial behavior, individual differences, and evolutionary social psychology.

Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
