Position Overview
The Clinical Director is responsible for the overall leadership, supervision, and direction of all clinical services within The Hope Institute. This role ensures that all treatment programs meet the highest standards of care, comply with state and federal regulations, and align with the organization’s mission of providing compassionate, evidence-based treatment for individuals struggling with substance use and mental health disorders. The Clinical Director serves as the primary supervisor for the clinical team and plays a vital role in maintaining quality, compliance, and positive client outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Program Oversight
- Provide direct leadership and oversight of all clinical services, including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and specialized programs.
- Ensure that all treatment provided aligns with ASAM criteria, evidence-based practices, and organizational standards.
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures that support high-quality clinical care.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director / CEO to align clinical programming with organizational goals.
Staff Supervision & Development
Provide supervision to clinical staff, including therapists, case managers, interns, and support staff.Conduct regular individual and group supervision meetings, ensuring staff adhere to professional and ethical standards.Oversee clinical staffing schedules, caseload distribution, and performance expectations.Support staff development through training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.Address performance issues proactively, ensuring accountability and professional growth.Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure full compliance with all state (N.J.A.C. 10 : 161B, 10 : 161A) and federal regulations, as well as accrediting bodies (CARF, Joint Commission if applicable).Review client charts and documentation regularly to ensure accuracy, completion, and timely entry.Oversee intake and screening processes, ensuring all required assessments and screenings are completed and uploaded into client charts.Develop and implement internal audits, quality assurance measures, and corrective action plans as needed.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in laws, regulations, and best practices.Client Care & Clinical Services
Provide direct clinical services when needed, including individual sessions, family sessions, or group facilitation.Participate in case conferences, multidisciplinary team meetings, and treatment plan reviews.Support crisis intervention efforts and ensure proper escalation procedures are followed.Ensure culturally competent, client-centered, and trauma-informed care across all programs.Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with Admissions, Housing, Office Management, and Administrative staff to ensure seamless care coordination.Collaborate with external stakeholders, including referral sources, community partners, and regulatory agencies.Represent the organization at community events, professional associations, and interagency meetings as assigned.Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field (required).Active New Jersey licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent) in good standing (required).CADC or LCADC certification preferred.Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.Strong knowledge of ASAM criteria, NJ licensing requirements, and HIPAA compliance.Experience with EHR systems (Kipu, TherapyNotes, or similar).Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Ideal Candidate Attributes

This is an on-site leadership position at our West Milford office. The Clinical Director will work in a collaborative environment with administrative, clinical, and housing teams, ensuring seamless coordination of care and operations.
