Emergency Medical Technician
JOB SUMMARY
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) operate Advanced Life Support (in partnership with a Paramedic) or Basic Life Support ambulances that are deployed throughout Whidbey Island. They respond to medical emergencies on Whidbey Island as dispatched by the Island County 9-1-1 center. They provide exam, triage, treatment, and transport of patients in the pre-hospital setting within the scope of practice of an EMT as determined by Washington DOH. Furthermore, they operate under Washington DOH approved Island County Protocols under the direction of the Washington DOH appointed Medical Program Director of Island County. WhidbeyHealth EMS adheres to authorized EMS certified provider (EMR, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic) scope of practice provisions in law including Medical Direction (18.71.205 RCW, 246.976.920 WAC), environment of practice (246-976-182 WAC) and training (18.73.081 RCW).
WhidbeyHealth EMS employees are stationed at remote stations where they conduct daily vehicle inspection, inventory, and routine maintenance. They will also restock supplies as needed, clean and wash vehicles, as needed, daily. Additionally, they maintain quarters in a manner consistent with WhidbeyHealth EMS standards.
Other job functions may consist of EMS training, maintaining certifications, event stand-by, public education, mutual aid, and inter-facility transfers. Other duties related to the operation of the Island County EMS system may be assigned.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned :
1. Departmental tasks directed by the EMS Director.
2. All tasks allowed by state law for an EMT such as;
a. take vital signs
b. transport patients
c. observe patients
d. notify Paramedic / RN of changes in condition
e. charting
3. Timely restock of all vehicles and completion of all paperwork.
4. Promote ethical confidentiality standards within the department and ensure quality patient care at all times.
5. Maintain vehicle for call availability.

Wage Scale :
$16.660 - $25.715 Base Rate - For every twenty-four (24) hour shift, employees are compensated at their base rate for eight (8) hours, then sixteen (16) hours of overtime.
$22.213 - $34.286 Effective Rate - Unscheduled time, non-shift hours, picked up / partial shifts (meetings, stand-by, public education etc.)
