Overview
Position Title : Floor Technician
The position is responsible for the overall cleanliness and upkeep of their assigned Residence Hall areas. The incumbent reports to the Housekeeping Services Supervisor.

Required Qualifications
Must have a High School Diploma or GED or provide proof of current enrollment in an accredited GED Program which must be completed within one (1) year of employment. Three or more years of experience preferred. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to interact in a diverse community and able to adapt to changing situations. Good oral and written communication skills required, with the ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write correspondence such as letters and internal e-mail communications. Ability to speak effectively when interacting with the Spelman community. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to utilize e-mail systems such as Lotus Notes / Outlook. Basic computer software skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) are preferred. These include creating such things as general correspondence, equipment status reports, and cleaning supply requests.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to : walk and stand for prolonged periods, use hands to handle office supplies maintenance products, operate computer, and operate cleaning equipment; talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to : reach with hands and arms, stoop or climb, smell, and lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. The employee occasionally is required to : sit, and lift and / or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic chemicals and fumes as well as to wet or humid conditions inside the buildings. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work near moving mechanical parts with some risk to shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
