Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown / Telemetry position in a Level 1 trauma acute care unit requiring a WV or compact RN license and EPIC experience.
Responsibilities
Work in a 24-bed stepdown unit within an acute care setting at a Level 1 trauma centerPatient population includes trauma, med / surg, brain and spinal cord injuries, respiratory compromise, complex wounds, chronic ventilator dependence, and advanced diabetic managementNurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 : 3, supported by three clinical aides per shiftAll 24 beds have telemetry monitoring and require basic EKG interpretation by RNsCommon interventions include bipap, CPAP, chronic ventilators, blood gas interpretation, tracheostomy care, and titration of drips such as cardizem, labetalol, and amiodaroneUses Epic as the electronic medical record; Epic experience is requiredNight shift position, 12-hour shifts (7p–7 : 30a), with weekend and holiday rotationFloating required on a rotational basis within the unitThe unit provides specialized care for trauma and complex med / surg patients, including advanced wound and respiratory managementCharge nurses and 24 / 7 house supervisors are available for supportAll RNs must wear royal blue scrubsUnit orientation with a clinical preceptor will be providedHoliday shifts are managed on a rotational basisNo on-call requirements for this assignmentFirst-time travelers will be consideredCandidates must pass EKG testing if assigned to stepdownReturning candidates must meet rehire guidelines specific to previous employment within the health systemRequirements
Active WV or compact RN licenseMinimum of 2 years of stepdown or acute care RN experienceCurrent ACLS and BLS certifications requiredProficiency with Epic EMRStrong assessment skills and adaptability to a fast-paced trauma environmentBasic ability to interpret EKGsMust reside at least 50 miles from the facility for eligibilityPrevious permanent employees must have a 2-year break before returning and prior travelers must be gone 2 years if worked a full yearBenefits
