Position Description

DEFINITION :

The FAFSA Completion Specialist is responsible for increasing the awareness and completion rates of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. (FAFSA). The FAFSA Completion Specialist will provide outreach and assistance to students that have not completed the (FAFSA) by utilizing a case management approach and by organizing awareness events. The FAFSA Completion Specialist will also assist students that need to make corrections to their FAFSA application. The FAFSA Completion Specialist will report on outcomes of the events and number of FAFSA submissions and completions.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED :

Receive direction from the Senior Director of Financial Aid.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS :

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :

Essential Functions :

  • Organize FAFSA awareness events and work alongside the CFCC Recruitment Team to provide FAFSA completion awareness during currently scheduled college events.
  • Collaborate with local schools, community centers, and organizations to provide outreach.
  • Work alongside the CFCC Marketing & Community Relations team to promote the FASA, Next NC grant, and related events.
  • Engage with students, parents, and guardians to raise awareness about the importance of FAFSA.
  • Provide clear and accurate information about the FAFSA process, deadlines, and requirements.
  • Distribute promotional materials and provide ongoing support leading up to the events.
  • Monitor the number of FAFSA submissions and completions.
  • Maintain accurate records of participants and their progress.
  • Report on the outcomes of the events, including the number of submissions and completions, and provide recommendations for future initiatives.
  • Facilitate the events, ensuring all logistical aspects are managed smoothly.
  • Provide hands-on assistance to students and families during the FAFSA application process.
  • Meet and greet students and parents in the Financial Aid Office.
  • Provide information to prospective and enrolled students.
  • Maintain confidential student records.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Important Functions :

  • Gather and analyze information; produce reports on Financial Aid Office activities.
  • Conduct outreach activities both on and off-campus.
  • Perform additional Financial Aid Office duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS : Knowledge of :

  • Operational characteristics, services and activities as they apply to a financial aid office.
  • Pertinent federal, state, college and local policies, procedures, laws, codes and regulations governing financial aid programs.
  • Federal software and web-based financial aid products, such as FAFSA Partner Portal, NSLDS, COD, and IFAP.
  • Computer database applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and document imaging systems.
  • Record keeping and reporting procedures.
  • Ability To :

  • Interpret and explain college financial aid policies and procedures.
  • Manage multiple priorities under established time constraints.
  • Work independently with a high degree of accuracy and as part of a team.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the daily course of work.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES :

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be :

    Minimum Education / Training :

    Associates degree from a regionally accredited college or university and / or two years of experience in higher education in the areas of Student Services or Financial Aid.

    Preferred Education / Training, Experience, Skills :

    Bachelor’s in business administration, accounting, or public administration

    Financial Aid experience in higher education

  • Candidates who have obtained their education outside of the US and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to the Baccalaureate or Master's degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
