Job description

Human Resources Specialist

Turion Space is building the future of autonomous space operations by designing and flying spacecraft that make Earth orbit safer, smarter, and more sustainable. Our team moves fast and executes with precision. As a Human Resources Specialist, you'll play a critical role in supporting our people operations infrastructure by ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a seamless employee experience from onboarding through every stage of the employee lifecycle.

You'll serve as the go-to person for HR questions and solutions while supporting the growth and engagement of Turion's high-performing teams. This is a hands-on role with plenty of opportunities to improve processes, drive operational excellence, and shape the foundation of HR at a rapidly scaling aerospace company.

This position will be located on-site at our HQ in Irvine, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees on routine HR questions, including benefits, leave policies, time off, and company guidelines.
  • Manage and execute daily HR operations, including coordinating onboarding and offboarding logistics, facilitating benefits enrollment and terminations, processing employee status changes, and administering leave of absence programs in alignment with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain HR systems and data with a high degree of accuracy, ensuring employee records, benefits data, payroll inputs, and compliance documentation are completed in a timely manner, kept up to date, and aligned with internal policies.
  • Troubleshoot minor system issues as needed.
  • Administer and support employee benefits programs, acting as a liaison with benefits providers and payroll to resolve issues, ensure accurate deductions, and communicate policy updates clearly to employees.
  • Ensure compliance and consistency in HR administration by preparing documentation for audits, enforcing standard operating procedures (including I-9 verification, background checks, and policy acknowledgments), and helping maintain up-to-date employee handbooks and policy documentation.
  • Partner cross-functionally with IT, Finance, Talent Acquisition, Legal, and external vendors to ensure operational readiness, seamless onboarding/offboarding, accurate benefits administration, and consistent policy implementation.
  • Support People team initiatives focused on employee engagement, culture, development, and well-being, including coordinating training sessions, supporting performance and feedback cycles, assisting with policy rollouts, communicating benefits updates, and contributing to programs that enhance the overall employee experience.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, scale HR processes, enhance compliance, and improve how employees interact with benefits, policies, and HR systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of HR experience with exposure to compliance, training, and employee records management.
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, federal and California employment laws, and data privacy standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-tech industries.
  • Experience working in a high-growth startup environment or established company with optimized processes and procedures.
  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Professional certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent).
  • Experience using HR analytics tools or dashboards to support decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on execution with process and systems.
  • Experience working with diverse workforce (hourly/salary, backgrounds, experience levels, etc)
