Arts in Action Community Charter School opened in Fall 2011 with grades K-5. The elementary program aims to provide a rigorous academic foundation while developing the whole child through a rich arts program, a daily socio-emotional learning component, and modeling advocacy through social justice initiatives.

Arts in Action Community Middle School opened in Fall 2016 and serves grades 6-8 students. We believe that all students deserve access to the arts. JOB DESCRIPTION : The intern psychologist directly works with the school’s credentialed psychologist and assists in developing a school-wide culture of learning, respect, and community engagement and building an atmosphere of safety and accountability. The intern psychologist assists in psychologist evaluation and provision of IEP eligibility and services, assists students in developing positive and effective social behaviors, supports teachers in managing challenging classroom behaviors, and supports parents in communicating their needs and questions and resolving concerns.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Work with the leadership & counseling team and school staff to create an atmosphere of respect among all campus community members. Support the communication with parents, faculty, and instructional leaders to ensure a shared vision of a respectful school community.
• Cultivate the socio-emotional well-being of the student body by assisting in developing and implementing programs and strategies to promote positive social growth and awareness, including but not limited to peer counseling, group counseling, bullying awareness week, etc.
• Collaborate with the counseling team to develop a small group curriculum. Topics may include, but are not limited to, emotion management, social skill development, self-esteem, and healthy lifestyles.
• Facilitate and / or co-facilitate small group implementation with the counseling team (see possible topics above), with the possibility of independently facilitating small groups, as appropriate.
• Meet with students as needed to support their emotional needs and concerns. Follow up with the appropriate documentation and communication with relevant parties (e.g., teachers, parents).
• Facilitate frequent communication with parents and families about student needs and concerns.
• Collaborate with the counseling team to conduct student observations in the classroom to build effective behavior support plans.
• Collaborate with the counseling team in planning and executing monthly student recognition assemblies, focusing on Arts in Action’s Creed values.
• Collaborate with the counseling team to develop parent education programs around mental health, socio-emotional well-being, behavioral expectations, parenting skills, support services available in the community, etc.
• Mentor students regularly and develop a system to track these sessions.
• Assist in tracking / entering behavior incident data into the school’s Student Information System
• Conduct investigations when an incident occurs on campus by collecting relevant witness statements.
• Working with the school psychologist on assessment, services, and other tasks.
• Other tasks as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

WAGE AND BENEFITS : This position receives a $15,000 stipend.
