Job Description

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Youth Care Advocate is responsible and accountable for monitoring youth and for maintaining a safe and secure environment for both staff and youth. He/she will reflect and display the character development core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES

· Implement security procedures of the YMCA and house as outlined in the Operations Manual.

· Supervise and monitor youth in all activities of the program both in and out of the house.

· Implement and supervise recreational activities.

· Conduct proper intake and discharge procedures for residents.

· Keep accurate logs and records.

· Maintain YMCA, DCF, and DEEC policies and procedures.

· Supervise and assist in meal preparation and distribution.

· Attend all scheduled full staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

· Intervene to prevent any crisis situation according to the Behavior Management Policy of the house.

· Work as part of a team with co-workers.

· Receive permission from Shift Supervisor or PIC (Person In Charge) before leaving the house to ensure proper staff coverage.

· Report any suspected child abuse or neglect to the Shift Supervisor and Shift Administrator.

· Follow dress code policy.

· Complete youth incident reports and logs before shift end

· Maintain work schedule as directed.

· Assist other service programs and families cooperatively as a representative of the Old Colony Y.

· Assume PIC (Person in Charge) responsibilities as assigned.

· Ensure all fiscal policies and procedures are followed for such things as petty cash, purchase orders, vouchers, and employee expenses, etc.

· Ensure emergency procedures (fire, safety and medical) are adhered to according to house policy.

· Maintain and clean all areas of the house, inside and out.

Requirements

High School education; related work experience.

Possess the ability to meet the physical needs of the program, including restraining juveniles up to approximately 200 pounds.
