Job Title : Electrical Engineering Lead
Location : Blue Earth County, MN
Pay : $115,000 - 170,000 (Depending on experience)
Position Overview
The Electrical Engineering Lead will oversee the design and development of innovative electrical and electronic systems for commercial and consumer products. This role combines hands-on technical design work with leadership responsibilities, managing a team of engineers and technicians to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality solutions on time and within budget.
Primary Responsibilities
Directs and coordinates electrical and electronic product development initiatives, ensuring technical alignment with broader organizational goals.
Guides engineers through all phases of the product lifecycle—from concept development and prototyping through validation, production, and launch.
Provides day-to-day technical leadership, mentoring, and support to ensure sound engineering practices and adherence to quality standards.
Drives continuous improvement through the integration of emerging technologies, design optimization, and process enhancements.
Evaluates electrical designs, schematics, and system architectures to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and performance requirements.
Oversees multiple concurrent projects, tracking progress against established timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
Partners cross-functionally with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product integration and manufacturability.
Develops and implements department-level engineering strategies, resource plans, and operational objectives to meet long-term business needs.
Serves as a technical point of contact for vendors, contractors, and external development partners.
Leads technical reviews, risk assessments, and root-cause analyses for design challenges and production issues.
Performs additional related duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
Leadership & Administrative Duties
Manages engineering personnel, including recruitment, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
Prepares and monitors departmental budgets, resource allocations, and capital expenditures.
Collaborates with HR and senior leadership to define policies, establish performance metrics, and develop staff career paths.
Requirements
Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
Experience :
Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in electrical design and product development, with at least 3 years in a leadership or project management capacity.
Required Skills & Competencies
Expertise in electronic circuit design, PCB layout, and embedded system development.
Proven ability to lead engineering teams and manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
Familiarity with design validation, testing procedures, and regulatory compliance for electronic systems.
Strong understanding of materials, components, and manufacturing processes relevant to electro mechanical products.
Skilled in root-cause analysis, design for manufacturability (DFM), and reliability engineering.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Proficiency with design and simulation tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, SPICE, or equivalent.
Strong command of project management tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
Business awareness, including understanding of cost drivers, production efficiency, and profitability impact.
