Description
The Department of Genome Sciences in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia (https : / / med.virginia.edu / genome-sciences / ) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Rank and tenure status will be determined by qualifications.
These hires are a central part of a major strategic investment by the University of Virginia to build a world-class Department of Genome Sciences. Established in 2024, the Department is expanding rapidly with the vision of becoming a national leader in genetics and genomics research. We seek ambitious and innovative scientists who will bring creative and integrative approaches to understanding complex traits, disease biology, and technology development across molecular, cellular, organismal, and population scales. We also welcome researchers pursuing translational directions, applying genetic discoveries to generate clinical insight.
Research Areas of Interest

About the Department of Genome Sciences
Launched in 2024, the Department of Genome Sciences builds on the foundation of the former Center for Public Health Genomics. Our mission is to drive innovation in genetics and genomics, train future scientists, and translate discovery into improved human health. Faculty employ state-of-the-art experimental and computational approaches to study a wide spectrum of diseases, including diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, osteoporosis, and cancer.
Department faculty enjoy extensive opportunities for collaboration across the School of Medicine, the UVA Cancer Center, the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Data Science, and other programs across the University.

Qualifiations
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and / or M.D. in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, or a related field. Applicants with exceptional credentials from all areas of experimental genetics and genomics will be considered. Evidence of extramural research support commensurate with career stage is expected.
Successful candidates will receive an attractive start-up package, dedicated laboratory space, and will join a highly collaborative research environment. They will also contribute to graduate and medical education and mentor trainees at all levels, helping prepare the next generation of genome scientists.
