Summary
The Manager - Inland Procurement (Heavy Haul and Project Cargo) is responsible for developing procurement strategies and managing projects related to inland / domestic transportation and international freight forwarding. This role provides day-to-day operational leadership in identifying strategic sourcing opportunities and managing the distribution of goods and services, with a focus on oversized project cargo and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). The Manager will support and implement departmental objectives, drive cost-saving initiatives, and lead cross-functional projects.
Key Responsibilities
Develop specialized sourcing strategies for project cargo, heavy-lift, breakbulk, and oversized / over-dimensional cargo (ODC) movements
Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with carriers, heavy-haul transporters, rigging / lifting specialists, and project freight forwarders
Manage RFQs / RFPs specifically for Oversized and heavy-haul transport services, ensuring accurate scope definition and compliance with project requirements
Perform risk assessments for critical cargo moves, including route surveys, safety compliance, regulatory approvals, escorts, and transport permits
Facilitate cross-functional communication with engineering, logistics, HSE, and project management teams to ensure alignment on project cargo requirements
Develop and implement strategies for procuring and distributing of goods or services
Implement changes and develop processes with strategies to improve procurement of goods and services, increase cost efficiencies, set policies, and align guidelines across all departments
Negotiation with vendors / suppliers to secure advantageous terms, finalize contract terms, budget forecast, and cost
Identify areas to reduce cost and opportunities to achieve financial goals and business' budget
Responsible for gathering and preparing documents like quotes, proposals and purchase terms and conditions from suppliers
Ensure alignment between strategic procurement initiatives for all GUS operations team and identify areas of improvements to continually drive performance and business results
Continuously assess and improve procurement processes to drive efficiency, streamline operations, and reduce costs
Perform risk management and evaluations for all suppliers, ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
Provide regular procurement reports and updates
Ensure compliance and policies, ethics, and goals in engagement of vendors
Maintain a structured database of qualified heavy-haul carriers, rigging / lifting specialists, multi-axle trailer providers, and project freight forwarders
Responsible for maximizing the use of all the different tools in the ERP system to analyze trends to maintain a stead flow of the supply chain
Responsible for negotiating vendor contracts and understand price points and be able to negotiate effectively and create constructive relationships with vendors
Provide controls, oversight, and audit functions over supplier performance
Liaise with the leadership with current supply base needs, provide initial escalation point for contractual issues with supply base
Develop key relationships with business stakeholders and strategic supply partners to improve business
Manage performance and workload of staff
Train staff and skills needed to enhance current skills for future growth
Compensation Range
$101,000 - $113,000 Per Year (Subject to Compensation Study Upon Candidate Selection)

Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree Required
7 - 10 Years of Experience in Strategic Sourcing, Automotive, Project Management, Contract Negotiations, Supply Chain Management, Finance Required
8 - 13 Years of Direct Experience Preferred
