Hourly Salary Range : $46.94-$64.71 Monthly Salary Range : $8,168.00-$11,260.00The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the critical role of Infection Prevention Nurse (RN3) for the Airway Heights Corrections Center (AHCC) located in Airway Heights, WA. This is a full-time day shift position with Sat / Sun off.

This position supports the mission of the Health Services division by providing necessary, comprehensive, quality health services and promoting wellness for incarcerated individuals. The Infection Prevention Nurse / Registered Nurse 3 directly oversees the clinic Infection Control and Prevention Program in an adult correctional facility.

Airway Heights Correction Center facility offers both inpatient and outpatient care to treat a diverse patient population with varying levels of health needs :

  • Our Inpatient unit offers 21 beds to provide acute care in a step-down infirmary setting.
  • DOC treats many chronic diseases, but this facility specializes in liver disease, cancer care and HEP-C
  • The Outpatient clinic sees between 10-50 patients a day for a variety of reasons and treatments

    Duties

    The Infection Prevention Nurse / Registered Nurse 3 directly oversees the facility Infection Control and Prevention Program. The Infection Prevention Nurse helps to develop, maintain, and evaluate this program, by supporting, educating and directing staff. During Infectious disease outbreaks, the Registered Nurse 3 leads at both the facility and statewide level by supervising infection control processes, developing response plans, monitoring and training staff assigned as resources during the event, overseeing required reports, and communicating status of outbreaks to key stakeholders.

    Assigned Work Activities :

  • Assist in the care and management of patients with communicable diseases.
  • Monitor and enforce Infection Prevention & Control.
  • Oversees the practice of all MAs, CNAs, LPN2s, LPN4s, and RN2s under this position's supervision.
  • Collaborate with all agency divisions to support infection control and prevention.
  • Assume accountability and responsibility for quality and efficient of patient care services and delivery.
  • Ensure staff participation in training and orientation.
  • Actively participate in clinic / facility-wide Coordinated Quality Improvement Program (QCIP) projects and programs.
  • Self-evaluate and practice professional conduct at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications :

  • Initial and continuous unblemished / unrestricted licensure in the State of Washington as a Registered Nurse.
  • OR

  • An unencumbered multistate license from a participating Compact Licensure State, 6 hours of Suicide Prevention training, 2 hours of EDIR training, and completion of the MLS demographic survey.
  • AND

  • Two years' experience working as a Registered Nurse.
  • Training by the American Heart Association in Healthcare Providers CPR.
  • Proficient using computer-based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry and word processing, and communicate via email, as well as other programs that may be needed to complete assigned work.
  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
  • in addition to the above, this position requires :

    Analysis - Uses data and information in a clear and rationale thought process to assess and understand issues, evaluate options, form accurate conclusions and make decisions. Identifies key facts, understands the nature and relationship between data elements, recognizes underlying principles or patterns in an array of data, and determines if additional data should be collected. Uses judgement and critical thinking in the absence of clear guidelines to draw conclusions about further action.

    Observation and Inspection - Critically observes and inspects people, conditions, and the environment to detect problems. Acutely aware of critical details, alert and attentive when preforming other work, understands normal conditions and constantly compares the current status to the norm to identify subtle changes and incremental deviation, make informed judgement about when a change in current status must occur and determines appropriate action. Uses insight to identify contributing and mediating factors. Understands thorough documentation and other forms of communication to cause others to understand and take appropriate action.

    Decisiveness- Makes timely decisions without sacrificing quality even under ambiguous circumstances or when data is limited. Recognizes when a decision must be made and moves forward, delegates decision making authority appropriately, advocates for important patient care objectives and finds common ground, and solutions among diverse interest.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Experience working as a Registered Nurse in a correctional facility or public health.
  • Certification as a Correctional Health Professional with NCCHC (National Commission on Correctional Healthcare).

    Insurance Benefits

    Retirement and Deferred Compensation

    State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs. For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.

    Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.

    Social Security

    All state employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The state and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.

    Public Service Loan Forgiveness

    If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, and meet the qualifying criteria, you may be eligible to receive student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

    Holidays

    Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.

    Note : Employees who are members of certain Unions may be entitled to additional personal leave day(s), please refer to position specific Collective Bargaining Agreements for more information.

    Full-time employees who work full monthly schedules qualify for holiday compensation if they are employed before the holiday and are in pay status for at least 80 nonovertime hours during the month of the holiday; or for the entire work shift preceding the holiday.

    Part-time employees who are in pay status during the month of the holiday qualify for the holiday on a pro-rata basis. Compensation for holidays (including personal holiday) will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status in the month to that required for full-time employment, excluding all holiday hours. Pay status includes hours worked and time on paid leave.

    Sick Leave

    Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.

    Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.

    Vacation (Annual Leave)

    Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.

    Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment.

    Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.

    As provided in , an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and / or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position. Vacation leave accrual rates may only be accelerated using the rates established WAC 357-31-165.

    Note : Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for exempt employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so. However, agencies are required to adhere to the applicable RCWs pertaining holidays and leave.

    Military Leave

    Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year.

    Bereavement Leave

    Most employees whose family member or household member dies, are entitled to three (3) days of paid bereavement leave. In addition, the employer may approve other available leave types for the purpose of bereavement leave.
