The Jr. High Head Boys' Track Coach's responsibilities include team management, athlete development, and program administration

Coaching and athlete development

Skill instruction : Teach athletes the fundamentals and techniques for various track and field events, such as sprints, hurdles, distance, and field events.

Practice planning : Design and organize a seasonal practice schedule that focuses on skill development, physical conditioning, strategy, and teamwork.

Mentorship : Act as a positive role model and instill values like sportsmanship, self-discipline, and confidence in student-athletes.

Safety and wellness : Prioritize the health and safety of all athletes. This includes ensuring proper warm-ups and cool-downs, educating on injury prevention, and following established procedures in case of an injury.

Academic monitoring : Give attention to the academic performance of athletes to ensure they meet eligibility requirements.

Team and program management

Supervision : Oversee all student-athletes during practices, meets, and travel, as well as supervising any assistant coaches.

Logistics : Coordinate with the athletic director to schedule contests, transportation, and facility use.

Equipment and facilities : Manage and maintain all track and field equipment, including proper inventory, storage, and reconditioning.

Budgeting : Participate in the budgeting process for the track program with the athletic director, which includes recommending equipment purchases and managing funds.

Program promotion : Recruit new athletes and promote the track program within the school and community.

Communication and administration

Communication : Maintain open and effective communication with athletes, parents, and school administration. Provide updates on schedules, performance, and program goals.

Paperwork : Complete and submit all required administrative paperwork, such as eligibility lists, attendance sheets, and injury reports.

Public relations : Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with the news media, parents, officials, and volunteers.

Compliance : Adhere to all district, state, and league regulations concerning the athletic program.

Qualifications

Certification : Hold a valid state coaching authorization or endorsement, typically with up-to-date CPR and first aid certification.

Experience : Have proven knowledge and a successful background in coaching or playing track and field.

Leadership skills : Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire middle school-aged athletes.

Continuing education : Stay informed of new techniques and rules within track and field through professional development, clinics, and workshops.
