Must-Have : Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills
Description :
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) is responsible for providing exceptional, patient-centered care to expectant mothers and their newborns.
The L&D RN supports patients through all stages of labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum care.
This role involves working closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and successful childbirth experiences.
Key Responsibilities include :
Performing comprehensive assessments of maternal and fetal health during labor, delivery, and recovery.
Monitoring vital signs, fetal heart rates, contractions, and other indicators of labor progress.
Administering medications, including epidurals and induction agents, as prescribed.
Educating patients and families on labor processes, pain management options, and postpartum care.
Assisting patients during all stages of labor, including natural births, assisted deliveries, and cesarean sections.
Providing emotional and physical support to patients and families during labor and delivery.
Operating and monitoring medical equipment, such as fetal monitors and IV pumps.
Anticipating and responding quickly to complications, such as preterm labor, fetal distress, or hemorrhage.
Providing immediate postpartum care to mothers, including monitoring for complications such as bleeding or infection.
Supporting and educating patients in breastfeeding and newborn care.
Performing initial newborn assessments, including Apgar scoring, weight, and vital signs.
Working closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and pediatricians to coordinate care.
Communicating effectively with interdisciplinary teams and reporting changes in patient status promptly.
Participating in emergency interventions, such as neonatal resuscitation or emergency cesarean deliveries.
Maintaining accurate and detailed patient records in electronic medical systems.
Following hospital policies, state regulations, and evidence-based practices.
Ensuring adherence to infection control standards and patient safety protocols.
Staying current on labor and delivery best practices through continuing education.
Participating in quality improvement initiatives within the department.
Working Conditions include :

Frequent standing, lifting, and assisting patients during labor and delivery.
Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and potential emergencies.
