Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of any or a combination of civil engineering, development review, geographic information system, environmental engineering and management, road design, computer operations, drafting, survey, and / or road construction inspection experience; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. Applicants within six months of meeting the minimum education / experience requirement may be considered for trainee status.
Successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.
Position Summary
This is experienced technical work in the areas of floodplain management, roadway engineering, design and construction.
An employee assigned to this classification performs complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, including developing and checking engineering computations. Work may involve supervising and assisting in compiling, analyzing and summarizing in report form of basic traffic, roadway, crash and / or maintenance inventory data.
Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and / or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work. Exudes a positive customer service focus.
Advocates building organizational culture through aligning decisions with the County's core values.
Tests and assists in recording and processing research engineering data, preparing and fabricating test specimens, components, and test apparatus.
Serves as crew member on location surveys and performs some instrument work and complex computations.
Makes earthwork computations and computes grades and curves.
Maintains roadway inventory and assigns new segment numbers.
Maintains traffic count data for preparation of annual report.
Gathers basic traffic and roadway sufficiency data; verifies report data prior to submission.
Maintains traffic crash reporting system for preparation of annual report.
Serves as technician in roadway construction plans preparation.
Maintains right-of-way and tax maps, plat books, and as-built drawing files.
Performs design drawing reproductions.
Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

Knowledge of Floodplain management, or roadway and drainage construction.

Ability to use trigonometry tables and solve triangles.
Ability to apply complicated mathematical formulas to work problems.
Ability to apply methods and practices of survey.
Ability to understand standard specifications as they apply to work being done.
