Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute care setting, requiring a WA or compact RN license and advanced perinatal certifications.
Responsibilities
Position is in the Labor & Delivery unit within an acute care Critical Access Hospital (CAH)Two L&D rooms available, with postpartum patients occasionally moved to acute care roomsAverage annual birth volume is 50-60 deliveriesTypical patient ratio is 1 : 1, occasionally 1 : 2, with only one OB nurse staffed per shiftCommon patient profiles include diabetes, gestational diabetes, advanced maternal age, and limited prenatal care; high risk cases are referred outC-sections are performed in the OR with post-anesthesia care in PACU; OB nurses provide newborn care but do not circulateOB Family Practice physicians are on-site during the day and on-call after hours; anesthesia is on-call12-hour shifts (6a-6 : 30p or 6p-6 : 30a) with typical scheduling in blocks and every other weekend requiredHoliday coverage required as neededFloating required to Acute MedSurg floor if there are no OB patientsEMR is Cerner Community Works; EFM system is Fetal LinkDuties include Labor & Delivery nursing, postpartum care, newborn support, and fetal monitoringSingle nurse coverage on shift with no nurse aide or surgical tech supportCharge nurse oversees entire hospital during shiftRNs are responsible for patient monitoring, including magnesium drips and electronic fetal monitoringRespiratory therapy equipment includes nasal cannula, non-rebreather, and high-flow as needed; no RT in-houseScrub attire must be clean and professional; no specific color requiredDepartment-specific orientation provided on unit for one dayRequirements
Active WA or compact RN licenseMinimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery nursing experienceCurrent ACLS, BLS, NRP, and EFM certifications, with at least intermediate EFM (advanced preferred)Experience in antepartum, L&D, post-partum, and acute MedSurg settingsAbility to titrate drips including insulin and magnesiumPrior experience with Cerner charting system preferredBenefits
