Overview

Position Summary

The Test Engineer I is responsible for assisting in the development of new and editing existing test plans and developing basic test fixtures for simple to medium complexity test projects. This entry-level role supports the execution of test processes on firearm systems and collaborates with the Test & Evaluation and Research & Development teams. Firearms experience is preferred.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively operate test equipment according to manuals, work instructions, or industry standards.
  • With guidance from more experienced Test Engineers, follow documented test plans, interpret test standards, document raw test data, and create written test reports to SIG SAUER standards.
  • Develop or edit written test plans based on statistical and quality assurance principles to validate product design or manufacturing quality.
  • Participate in test plan reviews to ensure test intent is met prior to testing.
  • Assist in analysis of test data using statistics to support design engineering decisions.
  • Assist in researching technology to create test methods to fill gaps in R&D test capacity.
  • Assist in designing, creating drawings for, and building fixtures for testing firearms, ammunition, or firearm subassemblies with assistance from higher-level Test Engineers.
  • Create item numbers, change orders, and documents in Agile PLM.
  • Engage in Continuous Improvement projects / tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with supervision regarding problems and corrective actions.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Follow all required safety and ISO procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field; 0-3 years of experience in an Engineering role preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience identifying and troubleshooting common firearm malfunctions is preferred.
  • Experience using and maintaining firearms is required.
  • Firearms training certifications (pistol, rifle, shotgun) from a recognized academy preferred.
  • Maintain range certification and handle / shoot firearms following SIG SAUER policy.
  • Range Safety Officer qualifications, including First Aid and Trauma Management, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience creating LabVIEW or MATLAB programs and reducing test data is preferred. Experience with Minitab for statistical analysis is preferred.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to complete tasks timely.
  • Working Conditions

  • Sitting at a desk and using a computer for extended periods; performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach, bend, twist, and lift / move files up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required PPE where required and comply with EH&S requirements and SIG SAUER security mandates.
