Job description\n Operate mammography equipment to capture clear, accurate images of the breast tissue. Ensure proper compression of the breast during imaging to obtain the best possible images while minimizing discomfort for the patient. Assist patients with undressing and putting on a gown, as well as positioning the breast for imaging. Perform digital mammograms and, if necessary, additional views to obtain complete images of the breast. \n Educate patients on the importance of mammograms, helping them understand the process and ensuring they know what to expect. Reassure patients during the exam, maintaining a calm and empathetic demeanor. Monitor patients for discomfort or any issues during the procedure and adjust accordingly. \n Ensure that images are free from artifacts or distortions that could hinder diagnosis. Work closely with radiologists to ensure that high-quality images are produced and evaluate whether additional views or retakes are necessary. Assist in conducting breast ultrasound or stereotactic biopsy procedures if needed to further investigate abnormalities found in mammograms. \n Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the equipment, following safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines. Follow safety standards for radiation protection to minimize patient and staff exposure. Ensure the machine is calibrated and functioning correctly to provide optimal images. \n Document relevant patient information, such as imaging results, positioning, and any special instructions or requests from the physician. Ensure all procedures, patient information, and images are properly logged into the hospital’s Electronic Health Records (EHR) system. \n Assist in explaining test results to patients, helping them understand what comes next in the process if further evaluation or follow-up is needed. Work closely with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care for the patient, especially if abnormal results are found. \n Follow all radiation safety protocols to protect both patients and staff from unnecessary exposure. Adhere to American College of Radiology (ACR) and FDA guidelines for mammography procedures and safety. \n Educate patients on the importance of regular mammograms and breast health, including self-examination and lifestyle factors that affect breast health.

A Mammography Technician (Mammo Tech) is a specialized radiologic technologist who operates mammography equipment to perform diagnostic imaging procedures for detecting breast abnormalities. These images, known as mammograms , help to screen for breast cancer and other breast-related conditions. Mammography Technicians are trained to perform the procedure, ensure patient comfort, maintain a high standard of image quality, and assist in patient care throughout the process.

Equipment Maintenance and Safety :

Record Keeping and Documentation :

Maintain patient records, including medical history, previous mammogram results, and details of the current exam.

Collaboration with Medical Team :

Communicate effectively with radiologists and physicians regarding images that may require further attention or additional imaging.

Adherence to Safety and Regulatory Standards :

Ensure compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations regarding patient privacy and confidentiality.
