Description : The Industrial Painter is responsible for preparing, finishing, and coating steel parts, weldments, and fabricated products to meet quality and appearance standards. This position plays a key role in ensuring a professional finish through the use of proper surface preparation, sandblasting, priming, and painting techniques. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and takes pride in producing top-quality finishes while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
- Prepare surfaces and components for painting by cleaning, sanding, masking, hanging, and plugging as required.
- Coordinate daily with Scheduling / Production to plan the paint and blast schedule, balance rush jobs and adjust workflow to meet deadlines and ship dates.
- Use sandblasting equipment to remove old paint, rust, and debris from metal surfaces.
- Operate spray equipment to apply primer and finish coatings on steel parts, weldments, and assembled products.
- Mix primers and paints, perform viscosity and mil thickness tests, and adjust equipment for proper spray patterns and coverage.
- Maintain and repair painting and sandblasting equipment, including performing routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on tools, spray guns, and paint booths.
- Handle and move materials safely by offloading, palletizing, loading carts, and transporting products to and from the work area.
- Inspect all surfaces and finished products to ensure they meet quality and appearance standards.
- Follow all safety procedures, wear required PPE, and maintain compliance with OSHA standards for hazardous materials and ventilation.
- Record work order details, inventory usage, and materials consumed accurately.
- Coordinate with the purchasing department to maintain inventory levels of paint, coatings, and supplies.
- Operate forklifts, overhead hoists, and other shop equipment safely; experience with heavy equipment is preferred.
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in industrial painting and / or sandblasting requiredProficient in operating spray equipment, sandblasters, and related finishing tools.Solid understanding of paint mixing, surface prep, and coating techniques.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage workflow efficiently.Dependable, safety-conscious, and team-oriented.Ability to interpret work orders, drawings, and job specifications.High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training is a plus.EPA and OSHA certifications preferred or willingness to obtain.Physical Requirements
Physically able to perform the duties of the job, including standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.Able to lift, carry, and move heavy materials or equipment as needed.Comfortable standing, walking, or performing repetitive motions for extended periods of time.Willing to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and confined spaces.Demonstrates good manual dexterity, coordination, and attention to safety while using tools and equipment.Company Description
