Behavior Assistant Qualifications :
Empathetic and patient demeanor - able to build trust with students who have behavioral and emotional challenges
Strong communication skills - clear, professional interaction with students, staff, and families
Collaborative mindset - works closely with teachers, behavior specialists, and school teams
Consistent and dependable - reliable in implementing behavior plans and maintaining routines
Observant and detail-oriented - tracks behavior trends and documents with accuracy
Flexible and adaptable - responsive to changing classroom or student needs
Responsibilities
Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) under the direction of certified staff
Support students in both general and special education settings to improve behavior and social skills
Collect data on student behavior and progress toward goals
Provide one-on-one or small group support during instructional time
Reinforce positive behavior strategies and use proactive de-escalation techniques
Collaborate with teachers and Behavior Specialists to adjust supports as needed
Attend team meetings and contribute to the development of individualized behavior supports
