Job Summary

We are seeking an outgoing leader with extensive engineering experience and a passion for mentoring and team development. This role involves leading the electrical department in our San Jose office, which includes approximately 15 engineers and designers. In addition to serving as a lead electrical engineer / project manager on various projects, the department manager will oversee workload assignments, recruitment, staff retention, and quality assurance standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct annual performance reviews
  • Recruit and interview potential candidates
  • Review and negotiate legal contracts with corporate oversight
  • Manage staff and allocate resources to meet deadlines
  • Document meeting minutes and track action items
  • Develop fee proposals and scopes of work
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance standards
  • Supervise design production and QA procedures
  • Assign project management and engineering roles
  • Lead weekly meetings to balance workloads
  • Mentor, train, promote, and manage staff performance
  • Develop training programs and resources
  • Serve as Lead Electrical Project Engineer or Project Manager
  • Oversee project financials and coordinate with accounting
  • Process plans through Plan Check agencies
  • Review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, and observe construction
  • Prepare detailed designs, calculations, and specifications
  • Communicate directly with clients (presentations, proposals, meetings)
  • Conduct job site investigations and construction observations
  • Prepare Due Diligence, Feasibility, and Basis of Design reports

Technical Expertise Required

  • Power, lighting, and low voltage system design
  • Completing tasks within design budgets
  • Coordination with architectural / structural designs and M / P engineers
  • Coordination with equipment vendors and suppliers
  • Recognized as a technical expert and committed to staying current with industry trends
  • Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum 12 years of experience with a consulting or design-build electrical firm
  • Strong knowledge of codes, standards, and engineering / construction processes
  • Excellent communication and computer skills (EE analysis tools, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit)
  • PE registration preferred
  • LEED accreditation desired
  • Essential Requirements

  • Proven project management experience
  • Direct supervision of support staff
  • Salary Range This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, CA. The expected salary range is $160,000 - $190,000 annually , depending on experience, education, and other relevant factors. As a multi-state employer, this range may vary for positions in other locations.
