Overview
Assistant Attorney General, Correctional Litigation Unit (OAG00592) – The Virginia Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an attorney to represent and advise the Virginia Department of Corrections, Department of Juvenile Justice, and Parole Board in the Correctional Litigation Section. The attorney will litigate cases in state and federal courts involving alleged violations of inmates' constitutional rights (including freedom of speech, religious freedoms, excessive force, and due process) and claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Virginia Tort Claims Act. This position may also offer opportunities for appellate work on cases appealed after trial court disposition. In addition to litigation, the role includes advising client agencies on emerging legal issues and handling ancillary matters such as subpoena duces tecum and Freedom of Information Act requests. Other duties, as necessary or appropriate, may be assigned. This is a public service opportunity within a dynamic team.
The position reports to the Section Chief and can be based in one of the following OAG offices : Richmond, Abingdon, Fairfax, or Virginia Beach. Some overnight travel is required.
