American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) position with night shifts and advanced cardiac care requirements.
Responsibilities
Work in a Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) unit within an acute care hospitalUnit has 18 beds and operates at Trauma Level 1Primary patient population includes intermediate care, post-CVICU patients supporting the thoracic program, cath lab, and cardiac / vascular diagnosesCommon cases involve CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular issuesNurse to patient ratios are typically 1 : 4; 1 : 3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hoursRNs titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, and cardizemBiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula respiratory equipment are usedCharting is performed using Epic EMRAssignment is for 13 weeks of 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700)Required to work every other weekendWill float to similar or lower acuity units as neededNavy blue scrubs are requiredRNs are responsible for titrating multiple cardiac drips and closely monitoring post-cardiac and vascular care patientsPass / fail skills exam (open book) will be administered during orientation with a required passing score of 90%Orientation is tailored to the nurse’s experience and typically consists of 1-2 unit-specific shiftsArtificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments and non-compliance will lead to contract terminationEvery shift is supported by charge nurses (rarely taking a patient assignment), nurse aides, and 24 / 7 hospitalist / intensivist coverage with cardiology on callRemote monitor techs are available, but RNs must personally interpret telemetry readingsUp to 7 days of time off (RTO) may be requested up front during the 13-week contract; no additional time will be approved after submissionRequirements
Active NE or Compact RN license, current and in hand at the time of considerationMinimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year with the specified patient populationCurrent certifications : ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS requiredExperience with cardiac stepdown or similar acuity levels requiredAbility to read and interpret telemetry strips independentlyMust reside at least 50 miles from the facility as demonstrated by a valid driver’s licenseCandidate may not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past yearBenefits
