Role
Our Vermont team is seeking an experienced Substance Use Counselor to provide group counseling, psychoeducation, and related interventions for individuals struggling with addiction who are seeking long-term recovery with medication assistance. As a Counselor, you will interact regularly with members, referral sources, field staff, and members of the local community. You will be a critical resource for members and community partners, guiding them on the path to recovery. Reporting to Vermont's State Director, you will work side by side with a high impact team of medical providers, counselors, and coordinators, helping members to thrive.
Unless otherwise specified, this position is remote (work from home) with expectation of attending team meetings quarterly. A potential for hybrid capability further in the future is preferred.
What you will do
- Employ Better Life Partners (BLP) harm reduction model of care, meeting members where they are on their recovery journey, and taking a phased approach to counseling
- Facilitate group therapy sessions for BLP members, primarily through telehealth and Zoom meetings
- Participate in assessments and intakes for new members
- Counsel one-on-one with members when necessary
- Manage group dynamics and handle difficult individual behavior with professional judgment while preserving group integrity
- Familiarize with and utilize Better Life Partners evidence-based curriculum guides and training
- Formulate and maintain treatment plans for each member served
- Utilize the EMR and provide detailed feedback, maintaining clinical progress notes
- Collaborate with community partners and BLP providers on case management and care coordination
- Adhere to professional and ethical standards, maintaining appropriate counselor / member boundaries
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations for licensing and billing
- Attend and engage in regular training, company meetings, monthly counselor consultation, regular clinical supervision, and interdisciplinary meetings
You are a good fit if you have
Vermont license / certification as ADC, LADC, LICSW, LCMHC or willingness to get cross-licensed through reciprocity with the state of VermontLocated in Vermont, or in close proximity within New HampshireBachelor's degree in mental health, social work, psychology, addictions, or related human service field; a graduate degree is preferredActive and in good standing license to practice in VermontWilling to be fully credentialed and insured; license verification will be done during the interview as a contingent of hireMinimum of 2-3+ years of related experience working with substance use or related fieldNice to have
Relevant experience in Vermont's Hub and Spoke system and / or outpatient medical assisted treatment provider settingUnderstanding of the system of care and referral systems in VTExperience leading groups via telehealth / Zoom and engaging with individuals and groupsExperience using an EMR / EHR system and updating clinical notesWillingness to travel locally within the served communitiesFlexible schedule, including availability for 1-2 evenings per weekSelf-motivated to help as many people as possibleTeam player with an "all hands on deck" attitude, organized and able to multitaskStrong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanorWork location requirements

The actual compensation offered within the range, along with title and level, will depend on factors including relevant experience, qualifications, skills, level offered, business requirements, and performance expectations. All full-time employees are eligible for equity in the form of stock options in the company's growth and success.
