Director, Software Engineering

As a Capital One Director of Software Engineering, you will work on everything from customer-facing web and mobile applications to highly available microservices, back-end Java-based systems, and machine learning models using the latest Big Data techniques. You’ll bring solid experience in technologies such as Node.js, Java, Go, AngularJS, React, Python, REST, JSON, XML, Ruby, Perl, NoSQL databases, relational databases, PySpark, Amazon Glue, Artifactory, Maven, iOS, Android, and AWS / Cloud Infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and grow multiple product-focused software engineering teams.
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team.
• Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios.
• Continuously improve software engineering practices.
• Design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack development toolset and technologies.
• Drive craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions.
• Stay current on technology trends, experiment with new technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, and mentor other engineering community members.
• Encourage innovation, cutting-edge technology implementation, inclusion, outside‑of‑the‑box thinking, teamwork, self‑organization, and diversity.
• Improve velocity of your and other teams.
• Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments.
• Transition monolithic applications into microservice architectures and build new microservices.

Compensation & Benefits

The minimum and maximum full‑time annual salaries for this role in McLean, VA are $263,900 – $301,200. The pay range may vary by location. This role also is eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, including cash bonus and long‑term incentive (LTI) opportunities.
