WHAT YOU’LL DO

Under the general direction of an assigned supervisor design, install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify all types of specialized equipment in a digital television studio, motion picture sound stage, post-production facility, viewing rooms, and all other film, television, and audio productions.

Representative Duties

  • Design, operate, and install a wide variety of digital and analog equipment used in a digital TV studio, field productions, recording studio, radio station, and post-production facility.
  • Prepare equipment and materials for use by students and faculty in the laboratories.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of materials, equipment, supplies, and software to instructors and students.
  • Inspect, clean, adjust, maintain, and make minor repairs on a variety of equipment.
  • Analyze and diagnose engineering and software problems using schematics and logic probes.
  • Consult with faculty on specific needs of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain a variety of records for inventory, purchasing, and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems during class and on-location student productions.
  • Monitor the use of software by students in the editing laboratories.
  • Design and fabricate special audio and visual systems for production, editing and remote recording functions.

Minimum Qualifications

An associate degree or equivalent college units (60 semester or 90 quarter units) from a recognized college or university with a major in media arts, broadcasting, cinema, film, television, or a related field, AND two years of professional experience working in a digital media setting such as a television station, studio, or production company which includes experience recording and editing video and audio content.
