Our Organization and Mission : The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts.

Position Summary : This Law Enforcement Investigator II position is in the Office of the Attorney General within the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Pay : $60,000.20 - $62,425.00 Annually

Qualifications :

Florida Statute 943.13 requires that any person employed in this class must :

(1) Be at least 19 years of age.

(2) Be a citizen of the United States.

(3) Be a high school graduate or its "equivalent" as the commission has defined the term by rule.

(4) Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.

(5) Have documentation of his or her processed fingerprints on file with the employing agency.

(6) Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or licensed advanced practice registered nurse.

(7) Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the commission.

(8) Execute and submit to the employing agency an affidavit-of-applicant form, adopted by the commission, attesting to his or her compliance with subsections (1)-(7).

(9) Complete a commission-approved basic recruit training program for the applicable criminal justice discipline, unless exempt under this subsection.

(10) Achieve an acceptable score on the officer certification examination for the applicable criminal justice discipline.

(11) Comply with the continuing training or education requirements of s. 943.135.

Preference will be given to candidates with healthcare fraud investigative experience working in a Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, or five years of sworn law enforcement experience, or five years of work experience conducting healthcare fraud investigations.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following :

The duties of this position require a state certified law enforcement officer, who is required to bear firearms and must maintain certification as a law enforcement officer pursuant to chapter 943, Florida Statutes.

65% Conducts routine and complex investigations of possible Medicaid fraud and / or patient abuse, including interviews with witnesses and possible criminal violators. Make arrests when applicable. Serve and execute search warrants. Collect evidence for possible use in either administrative, civil or criminal judicial proceedings.

20% Review records collected during investigation and prepare reports pertaining to all aspects of the investigation for use in criminal prosecution, civil actions, and administrative referrals.

10% Assist in the prosecution of Medicaid fraud and / or patient abuse to include testimony in courts of law pertaining to the investigation.

5% Perform other assigned duties.
