Job Summary :
The Maintenance Technician specializing in high-speed Giro bagging equipment at Jireh Packing ensures the reliable operation of bagging machinery critical to citrus packing operations. Reporting to the Head of Maintenance and Engineering, this role involves performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and calibrations on Giro bagging systems to minimize downtime and support efficient production across three packing lines. The technician collaborates with production teams to address issues promptly, maintains equipment in compliance with safety and quality standards, and contributes to the facility's goal of processing 5 million cartons per season. This position requires hands-on mechanical expertise, familiarity with high-speed packaging equipment, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Equipment Maintenance and Repair :
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on high-speed Giro bagging equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, filter changes, oil replacements, and part inspections (e.g., bushings, chains, belts) to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues on Giro machines, conducting repairs or adjustments to minimize downtime and restore functionality.
- Calibrate and adjust machinery to meet production specifications, such as bag sealing, filling rates, and speed settings for citrus bagging.
- Installation and Upgrades :
- Assist in the installation, setup, and commissioning of new or upgraded Giro bagging systems, ensuring seamless integration with existing production lines.
- Support software updates or modifications to Giro controls, collaborating with vendors for technical guidance.
- Safety and Compliance :
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including lockout / tagout procedures, while performing maintenance tasks on high-speed equipment.
- Ensure bagging machinery complies with OSHA, food safety (e.g., FDA), and facility standards, conducting regular inspections and documenting findings.
- Participate in safety training, audits, and meetings to promote a zero-incident work environment.
- Collaboration and Reporting :
- Work closely with production operators, supervisors, and the Head of Maintenance to schedule maintenance during off-peak times and respond to urgent breakdowns.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance using CMMS software, reporting trends or recurring issues to leadership.
- Train production staff on basic Giro equipment operation and safety to enhance overall team capability.

Qualifications :
Proven experience as a maintenance technician in high-speed packaging or bagging equipment, with specific knowledge of Giro systems preferred.Strong mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills, including reading blueprints, schematics, and using diagnostic tools.Ability to work independently or in a team, adapting to a fast-paced, seasonal production environment with varying shift lengths.Excellent problem-solving skills to quickly resolve equipment issues and minimize production interruptions.Familiarity with CMMS (e.g., UpKeep, Fiix) for logging maintenance and inventory management.Commitment to safety and quality, with a proactive approach to preventive maintenance.Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or at heights.Education and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related field preferred.Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in maintenance of high-speed packaging machinery, ideally in food processing or agriculture (e.g., fruit bagging).Experience with Giro bagging equipment or similar brands is highly desirable; vendor-specific training a plus.Working Conditions :
This role is based in a 400,000 sq ft production facility, with exposure to wet, humid, noisy environments, machinery vibrations, and varying temperatures (including cold storage).Requires standing, bending, and manual dexterity for extended periods; may involve on-call duties during peak season.Availability for shift work, weekends, and overtime to support operations as needed.
