Position Overview - Two experienced Night Shift Newborn Care Specialists are needed to support first-time parents as they welcome their newborn.
- The role is focused on expert overnight infant care, strong communication with parents, and maintaining a clean, highly hygienic nursery environment.
- The family is open to meeting candidates who may be interested in transitioning into a long-term ROTA nanny role in the future (not required for this contract).
Schedule - Overnight shift: 8:00 pm-8:00 am
- Ideal rotation: 3 days on / 3 days off
- Alternate option: 7 days on / 7 days off
- Local candidates strongly preferred; fly-in/fly-out may be considered for the right candidate/rotation fit.
Location & Work Environment - Location: Woodside, CA (Bay Area)
- The specialist will be based in the nursery
- A bed in/near the nursery is provided for overnight shifts
- Private bathroom provided
- Mask-wearing is required
Compensation & Potential Support - The family is offering an hourly rate of $55-60/+ hour, equivalent to $11,500k-13,000k/month based on the rotational schedule.
- Final compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
- Relocation and/or housing assistance may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Key Responsibilities - Provide complete overnight newborn care, including feeding support, burping, diapering, soothing, and resettling
- During the first month, you may need to remain awake for the entire shift; after that, the expectation may shift to waking only as needed
- Follow the family's approach to sleep foundations; they currently prefer gentle sleep conditioning (may evolve over time)
- Closely monitor the baby for any signs of illness, distress, reflux, breathing concerns, or other issues and respond immediately
- Maintain a calm, quiet presence in the home and protect the parents' rest
Nursery & Infant-Related Household Tasks - Prepare and organize bottles/feedings (breastmilk, formula, or supplements as directed)
- Strict bottle and pump-part sterilization; keep all feeding tools clean and ready
- Keep the nursery tidy, stocked, and organized (diapers, wipes, creams, swaddles, etc.)
- Manage diaper disposal appropriately and restock supplies before shift end
- Handle minor related tasks such as logging, bottle sterilization, and nursery organization
Communication & Parent Partnership - Maintain a clear, detailed overnight log, including:
- Feeding times and amounts
- Diaper changes (wet/soiled)
- Sleep intervals and overall rest quality
- Notes on temperament, comfort, and any concerns
- Provide a quiet, efficient handoff at shift end
- Follow post-birth instructions as they are refined; currently:
- Mother wishes to be woken for all feedings
- Parents would like coaching on newborn care tasks and best practices
- Wake the mother immediately if anything feels off or concerning
Household Dynamic - Fast-paced, supportive two-parent household with staff in place to keep the home running smoothly
- Parents split time between Bay Area homes and work in and out of the home regularly
- The ideal candidate is adaptable, confident working alongside staff, and naturally respectful of boundaries and privacy

- Detail-oriented with strong instincts and excellent judgment overnight

- Easygoing, positive, and communicates clearly

- Comfortable with a very hygiene-focused environment and consistent masking
Required Qualifications & Certifications - Minimum 3 years of relevant professional newborn care experience (NCS, night nanny, or doula)
- NCS/doula experience with at least 4 families
- Demonstrated expertise in newborn feeding, soothing, routines, sleep foundations, and developmental milestones
- Newborn care training preferred (Newborn Care Solutions or other CACHE-accredited program)
- Infant CPR/First Aid certification
- TrustLine certification required
- Current/updated vaccinations required or willingness to obtain, including:
- COVID vaccination and annual boosters
- Annual flu shot
- Tdap and MMR
- Current TB clearance (and current Tdap noted above)
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; comfortable being on your feet as needed during the shift
- Valid driver's license with clean record (vehicle may be provided for work-related driving)
- Valid passport preferred
- Swimming ability and comfort around water preferred (for future childcare needs)
Travel - The family does not plan to require travel during this NCS contract.
