Job Title : Controller – Construction Industry
Position Summary :
A growing construction firm is seeking a skilled Controller to oversee its financial operations. This role combines traditional financial leadership with system-focused oversight, requiring a professional who is comfortable operating at both the strategic and operational levels. The ideal candidate will have a background in construction accounting and experience working with ERP platforms in a similar industry.
Responsibilities :
Financial Strategy & Oversight
- Lead the company’s financial planning processes, providing insights that support business growth and operational efficiency.
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Deliver timely and accurate financial statements, ensuring a clear view of the company's financial health.
Accounting Operations
Supervise day-to-day accounting activities, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger maintenance, and revenue recognition.Oversee month-end and year-end closing procedures, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.Maintain and improve cost accounting systems, particularly as they relate to project performance and job costing.Project & Job Cost Accounting
Partner with project managers and field teams to monitor project budgets, track costs, and analyze variances.Ensure accurate work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and collaborate with operations on billing and revenue recognition.Provide financial guidance on project performance and resource allocation.Compliance & Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with industry regulations and accounting standards (GAAP).Strengthen internal controls to reduce risk and improve the integrity of financial data.Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors during annual reviews or audits.Team Leadership & Collaboration
Lead and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and cross-functional collaboration.Serve as a financial advisor to leadership, offering actionable insights to support operational and strategic decisions.Work across departments to align financial processes with business objectives.Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA preferred.Minimum 6 years of accounting experience within construction.Practical knowledge of construction ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, CMiC, Sage 300 CRE) and strong Excel skills.Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, and other industry-specific financial practices.Excellent communication, project management abilities, and a collaborative mindset.If this sparks some interest, apply below and we'll have a confidential chat.
