Overview
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspector role at Kansas Highway Patrol. This position conducts inspections and related activities for the Motor Vehicle Enforcement (MVE) program in accordance with the law and Kansas Highway Patrol policies. The goal is to discourage the entry of stolen vehicles and / or component parts into Kansas and to ensure accurate VIN and title / registration processes.
Responsibilities
- Detect evidence of tampering of VIN plates, labels and other identifying markers including odometer fraud.
- Examine and confirm the identity of vehicles previously titled outside of Kansas when the applicant desires to obtain Kansas title / registration.
- Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service to the public while conducting inspections and discouraging fraud and theft.
- Complete forms / reports in a timely manner and check incoming and outgoing reports for accuracy.
- Check titles and VIN-related documents for accuracy, authenticity, and evidence of alterations.
- Operate an agency vehicle as needed to fulfill agency requirements; inspections are conducted at VIN Inspection Stations at various locations.
- Provide inspection information to an MVE Trooper upon supervisory approval when the original public VIN may be altered or illegible, to determine if the vehicle will be seized or driven to the inspection site.
Qualifications and Post-Offer Requirements
