Position Summary
As a Polysomnographic Technologist, you will play a crucial role in performing sleep tests and collaborating with physicians to diagnose sleep disorders. You will monitor brain activity, eye movements, muscle activity, breathing patterns, and blood oxygen levels during sleep using high-quality recording equipment. Your expertise will be essential for interpreting recordings in real-time and responding to any emergency situations. You will also provide valuable support in helping patients utilize devices for breathing issues and promoting healthy sleep habits.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Disassemble and clean equipment thoroughly to ensure proper hygiene and functionality.
Perform polysomnogram data acquisitions while ensuring high-quality signals; make necessary adjustments as needed.
Follow specific protocols (such as MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration) to accurately collect data.
Demonstrate proficiency in scoring sleep studies based on established guidelines and center-specific protocols.
Document routine observations, sleep stages, and significant events to assist in scoring and interpreting polysomnographic results.
Prepare and calibrate testing equipment, performing physiological adjustments to guarantee accurate readings.
Comply with BRPT Standards of Conduct.
Integrate patient information to tailor testing procedures to meet individual needs in collaboration with physicians and clinical directors.
Emphasize continuous improvement in service delivery through quality management practices.
Oversee complex procedures and provide therapeutic interventions as necessary.
Review and update policy and procedure manuals as needed.
Act as a mentor for training new technicians.
Stay informed about advancements in sleep medicine, including procedures, equipment, and regulations.
Implement safety measures and interventions for patient care, such as CPAP and oxygen therapy.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of an accredited educational program with a focus on polysomnography leading to an associate degree, or a related program of at least one year from a licensed or accredited educational facility.
Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists or equivalent credentials.
