Overview

The mission of Speechify is to make sure that reading is never a barrier to learning.

Speechifys text-to-speech products turn PDFs, books, Google Docs, articles, and websites into audio so people can read faster, read more, and remember more. Our products include iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome Extension, and Web App. Speechify has been recognized with awards for Chrome Extension of the Year and Design award for inclusivity.

Today, nearly 200 people work globally in a 100% distributed setting. We have frontend and backend engineers, AI research scientists, and team members from major tech companies and startups.

We are looking for a Senior Android Engineer to support the growing Android app user base and to work on new projects that push us forward.

We are a flat organization where leadership can emerge from strong technical skills and reliable delivery. Work ethic, clear communication, and a drive to win are essential. Our interview process includes several technical interviews, aimed to be completed within 1 week.

What Youll Do

  • Own major features and collaborate with design to deliver high-quality Android features
  • Shape the direction of our Android team
  • Own, maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Participate in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering
  • Review pull requests and support teammates
  • Handle critical issues and unexpected challenges
  • Own feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA

An Ideal Candidate Should Have

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Familiarity with Android components
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
  • Product design intuition and user empathy
  • Drive to push Android UI / UX boundaries
  • Understanding of testing and test strategies
  • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit
  • User-oriented problem solving
  • Ability to receive and act on feedback from leaders

  • Experience contributing to open source Android projects
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS

    • The United States Based Salary range for this role is : 140,000-200,000 USD / Year + Bonus + Stock depending on experience
