• Experience in an Acute Care Setting

Description :

This is a Med Surg / Progressive Care unit.

The unit consists of 18 beds, including telemetry and 6 stepdown capable beds.

All rooms are private.

COVID patients may be housed if needed.

The unit has a mixed configuration with temporary walls and a specialized air handling system.

A charge nurse is present 24 / 7 and may take on 0-2 patients when needed.

Nurse managers conduct rounds but do not provide patient care.

Support staff includes telemetry techs, charge nurses, health unit coordinators, and patient care technicians.

Certified nursing assistants split the floor and each takes up to 9 patients.

RN to patient ratios are 1 : 4, while the stepdown ratio is 1 : 3.

Monitors used include Phillips, with a dedicated monitoring tech room.

Nurses are responsible for verifying monitor interpretations and documenting as necessary.

Common treatments include Cardizem, amiodarone, bumex, Lasix, integrillin, octreotide, and protonix.

High flow oxygen is used for patients requiring assistance, including those needing CPAP at home.

Hospitalists are available in-house 24 / 7.

Respiratory therapists and pharmacy services are also available 24 / 7.

Weekend requirements include working every other weekend.

Floating may occur to other medical-surgical units.

Common diagnoses include AMI, stroke / TIA, pneumonia, renal (dialysis), atrial fibrillation, SIRS, and diabetes mellitus.
