Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in managing the accounting operations of the Bank, owning the monthly closing process, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements (SEC, SOX, FDIC), and the efficient operation of internal controls. This is a key leadership role, with direct reports, offering visibility with senior management and an opportunity to influence financial strategy, reporting, and operational efficiency at a growing institution.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

• Oversee the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
• Support SOX compliance efforts, including documentation, testing, and remediation of internal controls.
• Manage regulatory reporting, including FFIEC Call Reports, FR Y-9, and other Federal Reserve and FDIC filings.
• Coordinate with external auditors and examiners during audits and regulatory reviews.
• Prepare and / or review monthly general ledger transactions.
• Initiate / Verify Wire Transfers for internal bank wires
• Prepare and file tax-related documents on behalf of the Bank
• Supervise and mentor Accounting / Finance staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate across departments to support the Bank.
• Implement and maintain accounting systems, policies, and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance.
• Monitor emerging accounting standards and regulatory updates relevant to banking institutions and public companies.
• Review Accounts Payable for accuracy.
• Maintain workflow software for completion of closing tasks and reconciliations.
• Conduct access review of software for direct reports
