  • Were looking for a Veterinary Team Lead - CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician) to provide oversight, coordination and operational supervision of staff and operations who medical care to all animals at SPCA Tampa Bay under the guidance of Shelter Veterinarians and in alignment with established medical protocols.

    What youll do :

    Coordinate and supervise vet services staff in the following duties :

    Assist Shelter Veterinarian with treatment procedures and exams.

    Complete initial physical exam, and start an animal on medications or treatments, based on Veterinary SOP.

    Perform routine procedures including microchipping, vaccinations, wound cleaning, injections and blood sampling.

    Perform and interpret routine laboratory procedures including skin scrapes, DTMs, ear cytology and microfilaria exams.

    Complete daily, or as otherwise scheduled :

    a. Perform treatments, vaccinate, deworm and / or give heartworm / flea prevention for all animals in the shelter. Complete any treatments in for Adoptions floor animals, including post-operative medications, and monthly preventives.

    b. Check volunteer medical concerns sheets in Feline Friends, the Canine Volunteer office, and Pocket Pet Plaza.

    c. Examine all the animals in adoptions and move any animals of concern (medical or behavioral) to the proper kennel, starting treatment recommended by the Medical SOP.

    Coordinate daily surgical cases.

    Perform routine dental cleanings.

    Administer sedation and anesthesia medications.

    Intubate and maintain pets on oxygen and / or gas anesthesia.

    Monitor pets under anesthesia and adjust levels based on evaluation of pet.

    Log Controlled Drugs per DEA guidelines.

    Monitor recovery of anesthetized pets.

    Prior to full recovery, ensure pets are microchipped, ears cleaned, and nails trimmed.

    Place animals in the appropriate areas after surgery is completed.

    Ensure PetPoint records are updated thoroughly and accurately, with surgery notes, treatments, and data prior to moving to next stage.

    Provide friendly, responsive and personalized customer service.

    Keep accurate and updated records and enter data as required into Pet Point shelter software.

    Assist other medical team employees as needed.

    Help train the staff on all aspects of the training lists and sign off on their completions.

    Be able to interact with the public and discuss medical issues with adopters.

    Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

    Participate in required meetings and trainings.

    Ensure DEA compliance with Controlled Substances (i.e., buprenorphine)

    Professionally always represent SPCA Tampa Bay.

    Work with industry leaders to advance your career and be promoted within

    Complete initial exam work-ups, routine procedures, and interpret laboratory results

    Calculate doses for medication, perform cystocentesis, induce anesthesia, and intubate pets

    Dental cleanings, assist in spay / neuter surgeries, and other procedures
