Position Title : Lead Dental Assistant

Job Summary :
The Lead Dental Assistant supports the daily clinical operations of the general dentistry practice and serves as the primary point of contact for the dental assisting team. This role includes chairside assisting, back-office coordination, staff support and training, inventory management, oversight of lab cases and invoicing, and ensuring compliance with all clinical and safety standards. The Lead Dental Assistant is responsible for maintaining an efficient, organized, and patient-focused clinical environment.
Primary Responsibilities :
Clinical Support :
- Assist the dentist chairside during general dental procedures, including exams, fillings, crowns, extractions, and impressions.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and equipment.
- Take and process digital X-rays and intraoral photographs.
- Ensure accurate clinical documentation and charting in the dental software system.
Leadership & Team Coordination :
Oversee the daily duties and workflows of the dental assisting team.Train, mentor, and support new and current dental assistants.Create and maintain assistant schedules, ensuring appropriate coverage.Promote teamwork, accountability, and a patient-centered approach within the clinical team.Compliance & Infection Control :
Maintain strict adherence to OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control protocols.Supervise sterilization of instruments and operatory disinfection processes.Perform regular checks to ensure compliance and address any deficiencies promptly.Inventory & Equipment Oversight :
Monitor clinical supply levels; order materials and instruments as needed to prevent shortages.Maintain supply organization systems and track usage trends.Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair with vendors or internal contacts.Lab Case & Invoicing Oversight :
Manage and track all outgoing and incoming dental lab cases (e.g., crowns, dentures, night guards).Communicate clearly with labs regarding case details, due dates, and adjustments.Ensure all lab cases are delivered on time and meet clinical standards prior to patient appointments.Maintain accurate logs of lab work and reconcile associated lab invoices.Collaborate with the front office to ensure timely and accurate billing for lab-related services.Qualifications :
Minimum 3-5 years of dental assisting experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership role preferred.Current CPR / BLS certification .Proficient in dental software and digital radiography.In-depth knowledge of dental procedures, sterilization techniques, and infection control protocols.Excellent leadership, organization, and time management skills.Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.Key Competencies :
