The department of Economic Development and Planning is currently seeking to fill the role of Environmental Technician.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES : :
Compiles inventories of environmental resources such as wetlands waterways important ecosystems hydrology flora and fauna;
Identifies and assesses changes in plant and animal species;
May operate a small craft during marine water samplings and assist in sampling duties;
Tabulates and compiles data and makes simple calculations;
Writes reports and recommendations resulting from fieldwork or special projects;
Prepares maps diagrams and overlays necessary to identify various environmental data;
Consults with other governmental agencies public interest groups and educational institutions involved in the study and protection of the environment;
Responds to complaints about conditions that affect the environment;
Assists in investigating violations of ordinances and regulations regarding environmental protection;
May assist in the monitoring of beach erosion in dune stabilization programs and in wetlands permit reviews.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
EITHER :
a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelors Degree in mathematics one of the natural or physical sciences environmental studies or a related field;
OR
b) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY state with a Bachelors Degree and one (1) year of experience in environmental protection activities.
This Role Is A Provisional Appointment
A provisional appointment which occurs only in the competitive class is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the order to become permanent the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates
