Position Title : Parent Educator

Reports To : Early Childhood Program Manager

Classification : Full-time, Non-Exempt, 1.0 FTE

Compensation : $19.30 - $20.67 DOE

Candidate Profile

Latino Network seeks a bilingual, bi-cultural mission-driven professional with nonprofit and community experience with parent-child groups and one-on-one support for parents of young children (0-6 years old). The Parent Educator will lead a full range of activities for a growing program. As part of a dedicated team, the Parent Educator supports program development and implementation and works with team members to facilitate parent-child groups, build community partnerships, and empower parents. The role requires excellent communication with parents to identify and meet their goals while supporting the development of their young children.

Position Summary

This role provides families with culturally specific home visits, personal instruction, and demonstrations of appropriate educational activities. It involves facilitating parent-child groups several times per month, maintaining organized files for each family to support parent goals, delivering a research-based curriculum and materials, and conducting screenings for children birth to age three (vision, hearing, language development, motor development, health, etc.).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support parent learning and delivery of information to families by implementing curriculum and strategies individualized for each family (e.g., Parents as Teachers, Nurturing Parenting, Assertive Engagement)
  • Maintain a caseload of 15 families
  • Actively recruit families to participate in the program
  • Conduct home visits, developmental screenings, vision and hearing screenings
  • Plan and implement parent-child groups to promote wellness, family support, and healthy child development
  • Coordinate services with other community programs and make referrals as needed
  • Represent Latino Network at community events supporting families and / or young children
  • Support the philosophy and mission of Latino Network
  • Support the Strengthening Families framework (protective factors in families' lives)
  • Complete required documentation for home visits, attendance, screenings, and other reports as requested
  • Attend required early childhood trainings and participate in trainings for positive communication and related topics
  • Enter data and documentation using Efforts to Outcomes (ETO)
  • Comply with HIPAA and confidentiality laws
  • Requirements, Skills, Knowledge, Education, and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of education, training, and experience in culturally specific public health promotion, early childhood development, popular education, community-based adult education, and / or family engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to work with adults and their young children in an educational setting
  • Experience conducting home visits with low-income parents and children in a culturally responsive way preferred
  • Bilingual and bi-literate Spanish required
  • Bicultural proficiency : knowledge of Latinx worldview, adaptive reasoning, and problem-solving practices
  • Strong desire to promote educational equity and social justice within early childhood context
  • Organizational skills to meet documentation requirements
  • Respect for diversity; ability to work cross-culturally
  • Exhibit patience, responsibility, growth mindset, courage, empathy, flexibility, and creativity
  • Additional Administrative and Physical Requirements

  • Successful completion of initial and ongoing employment screens (criminal background, vehicle record, etc.)
  • Valid Driver's License, reliable transportation, ability to meet participants in homes and community settings; automobile liability insurance preferred
  • Evening and weekend availability; flexible hours with peak periods requiring longer hours
  • Physical Demands

    The role may require lifting up to 25 pounds regularly, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and frequent manual handling. Regular use of hands, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, and other activities are needed. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.

    Work Environment

    Fast-paced, multi-site environment with on-site and remote work. Some exposure to outdoor conditions and moderate noise. Latino Network values diversity and respectful communication across beliefs and backgrounds.
