Solid Waste Site Attendant
Under general guidance, this position is responsible for the collection of solid waste for a specific site. The role directs traffic to the correct box, occasionally helps lift trash into the boxes, and ensures the safety of the public around the collection site. The work varies little, requiring individual judgment within general guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Maintains solid waste container sites in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Responsible for the collection of dumping fees and issuing proper change.
- Complies with Montana DEQ regulations as to appropriate methods of handling hazardous materials.
- Refuses to accept suspicious or hazardous materials which the public may want to dump at the site.
- Assures that proper safety equipment and procedures are utilized at the container site to prevent injury to citizens and employees.
- Files daily time sheets and receipts making reference to garbage and monies collected each day.
- Assists users in putting waste in site containers.
- Visually inspects collection sites for areas needing maintenance or cleanup.
- Position requires considerable contact with the public, fellow employees where courtesy and diplomacy are required.
- Performs such other duties as may be required.

Minimum Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED equivalent.Previous experience in customer service, cash handling, or solid waste operations preferred but not required.Basic math skills sufficient to make change and balance daily receipts.Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, coworkers, and supervisors.Ability to read and follow written policies, safety rules, and work instructions.Basic computer or cash register skills to process payments and issue receipts.Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Montana driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.Physical Demands and Working Conditions :
Work performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.Frequent standing and walking on uneven surfaces such as dirt, gravel, or mud.Regular bending, reaching, stooping, and twisting.Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds.Hand and finger dexterity required for cash handling and operating equipment.Regular exposure to dust, odors, noise, insects, and municipal solid waste.Potential contact with hazardous or biohazardous materials.May work alone or with limited supervision for extended periods.Regular interaction with the public, including individuals who may be upset or difficult.Weekend and holiday work may be required based on site operations.Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as provided.
