Summary

Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure and performs sponging, suturing, suctioning, holding retractors, and homeostasis. Monitors the patient and equipment during surgery and prepares patients for transport to and from surgery.

Job Duties

• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon during routine and complex assignments in the scrub role.
• Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
• Intervenes to correct, minimize, or prevent actual or potential risks, based upon observation of physiological and / or behavioral data.
• Solves problems, troubleshoots, and takes corrective measures in care and handling of equipment.
• Serves as the preceptor for new employees, transfers, and / or affiliating students.

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples : Push / pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing / walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift.
