Job Description

Hoffman Construction is seeking a QA / QC Field Engineer. This individual will be an integral member of the on-site Quality Department, providing essential support throughout the lifecycle of a hyper-scaled data center construction project. Reporting to the High-Tech Program Quality Manager, the role will work closely with site leadership and cross-functional teams to manage day-to-day site activities, quality control efforts on site, including document review during preconstruction and construction. The QA / QC Engineer plays a critical role, including inspecting the project generally, including specific scopes, during the offsite fabrication, construction, commissioning, and punch list phases of the project - working to bring all issues to closure. This position will collaborate with design professionals, clients, trade contractors and craftspeople to address complex coordination issues; you are on the front line in identifying, preventing, and solving technical problems across multiple scopes in a complex mission-critical environment. This position will be fully at the project site near Amarillo, Texas. Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to the following :

  • Schedule and coordinate inspectors, trade contractors, and associated personnel
  • Perform onsite inspections in assigned scope (electrical, mechanical, utilities, civil / architectural / structural, commissioning, etc.)
  • Attend and provide details for QA / QC Meeting and Quality Team Meeting
  • Ensure all trade contractors are following their approved QA / QC Plans
  • Ensure all trade contractors are installing work in accordance with project documents, applicable codes and standards, and best work practices.
  • Perform offsite and onsite inspections of Owner Furnished Equipment
  • Must be able to interpret and implement proper installations in compliance with all local authority permitting, codes, and site specifications.
  • Provide clear communication, verbally, written, and electronically.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Salary Range $93,600.00 - $139,776.00

    Qualifications

    We are looking for a flexible, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines. The successful candidate will possess :

    Professional Experience and Education

  • Minimum 2 years' construction QA / QC experience.
  • Proven experience Structural engineer, erector, and / or inspection experience.
  • Concrete pre-install, install, and / or inspection experience is preferred.
  • Site and architectural installation and / or inspection experience is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of and competency in Field Management Software (BIM360 Field, Procore, Latista, etc.)
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor of science in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, structural engineering, construction management or equivalent degree and / or equivalent craft level work experience.
  • Position Related Skills

  • A strong commitment to quality compliance with OSHA standards and site-specific requirements.
  • Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential to being able to maintain a cooperative attitude through pressure situations.
  • Ability to manage several work activities at once while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions on work in progress.
  • Advanced visual observation and interpretation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to work closely with clients, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Must be a dedicated team player, self-starter, flexible and able to work well with a variety of personalities and minimal instruction. Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations is required.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
  • Physical and Mental Requirements :

  • Standing / Walking / Sitting : Workday is a combination of being stationary and moving about the work location.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, to ascend and descend ladders, scaffold, inspect confined or underground spaces.
  • Hands / Arms : Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. Frequently operates machinery and will use hand / fingers and legs to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, and position materials.
  • Sight : Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus in an outdoor environment. Must be able to safely operate a vehicle with a valid driver's license. The work is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading print and digital documents.
  • Hearing : Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment mor than 75% of the time. Mst be able to wear hearing protection, as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and co-workers in an office setting and on the job site.
  • Speech : Ability to communicate laws, ordinances, plans, regulations, protocols, directives, and standard operating procedures related to project scope in English.
  • Lift / Carry : Must have the ability to lift or manipulate fifty pounds to a height of three feet and carry or push it 50-100 feet.
  • Bending / Twisting : Frequent.
  • Kneeling / Crouching / Crawling : Must be able to regularly position self in a kneeling, crouching or crawling position for purpose of examining project work.
  • Must be able to physically access all areas and levels of construction site for work progress review.
  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow for extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.
  • Must use independent judgment, organizational and critical thinking skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results.
