Montana VA Health Care System (MTVAHCS) is seeking a Physician - Radiologist Chief of Diagnostic Imaging. This position requires the incumbent to provide direct outpatient care as a member of an interprofessional radiologist team.

Duties :

Section Chief / Administrative Functions (40%)

  • Provides leadership, management, and oversight of providers and / or programs that support Diagnostic Imaging (DI).
  • Collaborates in the development and maintenance of written policies and procedures defining operational requirements for DI.
  • Routinely participates in regularly scheduled DI management meetings.
  • Assures that the necessary aspects of orientation are covered at the service level for all radiologists, including information security, CPRS training, and virtual related training and documentation.
  • Monitor DI performance and assess adherence to VA standards, assure quality and effectiveness of care, and meet VA performance measures.
  • Conducts, monitors, and maintains OPPEs and FPPEs for staff radiologists.
  • Develops and monitors performance / outcome metrics and conducts analysis of existing DI programs and services. Makes recommendations to the ACOS for program's strategic direction, productivity, improved process performance, and capital utilization.
  • Ensures DI programs are compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements.
  • Respond to patient inquiries that arise from daily practice, through the Patient Advocate, through the front office, and by Congressional action.
  • Evaluates and determines a course of action which will result in the most favorable patient or organizational outcome.
  • Assumes full responsibility for working with leadership to prioritize, implement, onboard, manage operations, and terminate Diagnostic Imaging operations when / as appropriate, to include clinic cancellations.
  • Adapts to changing circumstances while displaying a high degree of interpersonal skill.

Clinical Responsibilities (60%)

This position requires the incumbent to provide direct outpatient care as a member of an interprofessional radiologist team.

  • Collaborate with Diagnostic Imaging personnel in the ongoing management of patients.
  • Perform imaging interpretations / dictation and amendments as necessary.
  • Order diagnostic studies, such as laboratory tests, X-rays, electrocardiograms (EKG's) as needed.
  • Review needs for and order health promotion and disease prevention activities.
  • Initiate, respond, and expedite request for consultations, special tests, and studies.
  • As appropriate, participate in interprofessional focused patient chart reviews, team meetings, team huddles, and shared medical appointments.
  • Preferred Experience : American Board of Radiology certified or eligible.

  • Federal Retirement Plan :

  • VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits, 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension), and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan
  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employees salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employees salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2020, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $23,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $30,000.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel

  • Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service

It is also the perfect mid-way point between Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. Helena is located just miles from the Missouri River and some of the best fly fishing in the world.
