Job Description

At Texas Original Compassionate Cultivation, our mission is to create the highest quality medicine that changes people’s lives. We stand beside all who believe in safe, legal and effective access to this powerful medicine. As fellow Texans, we see this as our responsibility to take care of our neighbors. Our vision is to transform Texas through the power and the truth of medical cannabis. We work alongside physicians and their patients with current qualifying conditions to supply prescription cannabis that can change lives.

The Quality Manager is responsible for the overall growth, development, implementation, and execution of the site’s quality systems and staff. This role oversees the Quality Assurance (QA) program directly and provides leadership guidance to the Laboratory Supervisor, who owns day-to-day Quality Control (QC) operations. The Quality Manager ensures that manufacturing, testing, and release processes align with regulatory requirements, internal standards, and customer expectations. This is a key leadership role that partners closely with manufacturing, regulatory, and R&D teams to drive product quality, compliance, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate brings both strategic vision and practical experience in building quality systems in regulated manufacturing environments.

Essential Functions :

  • Quality Assurance Ownership :
  • Lead all aspects of the QA program, including document control, batch record review, deviation management, CAPAs, and internal audits.
  • Design, develop, and implement the site’s Quality Management System (QMS), including core elements such as change control, risk management, training, and audit readiness.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the document control system, ensuring version control, timely review / approval, training linkage, and controlled access across departments.
  • Approve SOPs, quality documentation, and product release records.
  • Own regulatory audit readiness and serve as the site representative during inspections.
  • Collaborate with operations to embed quality practices throughout the production process.
  • Investigate consumer complaints by determining root cause, implementing corrective and preventive actions, and analyzing complaint trends for process improvement.
  • Leadership of QC & Lab Operations :
  • Provide oversight and coaching to the Laboratory Supervisor managing day-to-day QC and analytical lab activities.
  • Ensure timely execution of all QC testing (raw material, in-process, and finished goods) in accordance with internal specifications and regulatory methods.
  • Review laboratory results for completeness, trends, and accuracy; support method development, instrument calibration, and validation efforts as needed.
  • Ensure QA and QC coordination for investigations, batch release, and documentation closure.
  • Training & Cross-Functional Support :
  • Develop and deliver training programs related to GMP, SOP compliance, deviation reporting, and quality culture as needed.
  • Ensure that QA and lab staff are trained, supported, and held to high performance standards.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives such as new product introduction, equipment commissioning, or process validation from a quality perspective.
  • Act as a key quality liaison across departments including operations, supply chain, and product development.
  • Provide support to QC functions as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement :
  • Define and monitor key quality metrics (e.g., first pass yield, deviation frequency, complaint rates, release timelines).
  • Analyze data to identify trends and drive root cause analysis and CAPA effectiveness.
  • Lead or contribute to projects focused on process optimization, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
  • Benchmark industry best practices and apply scalable solutions to enhance the quality culture.

Additional Responsibilities :

  • Assist with vendor qualification, audits, and ongoing supplier performance monitoring.
  • Draft, revise, and standardize SOPs, work instructions, and quality forms in collaboration with department leaders.
  • Coordinate or oversee quality aspects of product recalls.
  • Lead preparation of management review materials and quality metrics reports for executive leadership.
  • Support environmental monitoring programs, sanitation verification, and pest control documentation.
  • Monitor regulatory trends and industry best practices; recommend policy or procedure changes to maintain compliance.
  • Provide back-up support to the Laboratory Supervisor during absences or high-demand periods.
  • Participate in site leadership meetings and contribute to overall operational planning and strategy.
  • What You'll Need to Succeed :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical field (Chemistry, Biology, or Engineering preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience in quality assurance, quality systems, or compliance in a regulated manufacturing environment (cannabis, food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or cosmetics)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with both QA and lab-based QC functions preferred.
  • Experience leading or managing QA teams and providing oversight to laboratory or QC functions
  • Familiarity with quality tools (CAPA, document control, change control, deviation, risk assessment, audits, RCA) and regulatory frameworks (GMP, HACCP, ISO, state cannabis laws).
  • Familiarity with analytical lab instrumentation (HPLC, GC, moisture analyzers, luminometers).
  • Quality certifications (e.g., ASQ CQA, Six Sigma, HACCP, PCQI) a plus.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and technical writing skills
  • Ability to think strategically and build scalable systems that meet current and future business and regulatory needs.
  • Experience standing up new quality systems or leading major quality system overhauls is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer systems including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Must meet age requirement as outlined by state cannabis agencies.
  • Able to pass all background checks / fingerprinting as required by state cannabis agencies.
  • Able to provide valid badging / credentials as required by state cannabis agencies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Must follow PPE and Safety guidelines as required, in each zoned area within the facility, while completing work.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • This person may be exposed to dust, kief, cleaning chemicals, and fumes. Although systems are in place to remove these byproducts, there is still exposure to some degree.
