Job description

Talent Acquisition Specialist

Chess.com is one of the largest gaming sites in the world and the #1 platform for playing, learning, and enjoying chess. We are a team of 600+ fully remote people in 60+ countries working hard to serve the global chess community. We are here to support 200M+ chess players worldwide with the best possible product, content, and tools to serve the community!

We are a tech company. A gaming company. A content company. And we do it all with passion and commitment to the game. Above all we prize our mission-driven, flat, life-celebrating, no-corporate culture, and we look forward to meeting you and learning more about what you can bring to the team.

About You

You are comfortable working in a dynamic, evolving environment and can adapt to new processes and challenges. You care deeply about candidate and team member experience and are eager to learn and apply best practices in talent acquisition. You're comfortable navigating change and context-switching across roles as needed. You're resourceful in your sourcing methods, with an ability to identify and engage diverse talent.

Chess.com is a highly unique place to work, and success in this role will require an understanding of best practices in talent, but also an awareness of when to adapt, innovate, or create a new approach as needed to support our dynamic, evolving teams. You understand that people and relationships are the core of the work; the projects, tasks, and results will follow.

What You'll Do

  • Own full-cycle recruiting for assigned roles and teams, focusing on attracting high-quality talent across various disciplines.
  • Work with strategic partners in the People function and across teams to ensure a seamless, efficient, positive experience for both candidates and hiring managers.
  • Build and maintain a network of candidates through various sourcing strategies.
  • Contribute to efforts to build and enhance our employer brand, ensuring we are recognized as a competitive, unique place to work.
  • Work closely with hiring managers to understand hiring needs, job specifications, and team culture to ensure alignment, while also collaborating with other team members on our process.
  • Support the collection and organization of accurate recruitment data to help inform insights on hiring trends and key metrics.
  • Deliver a consistently excellent candidate experience, providing clear communication, timely feedback, and a transparent, culturally-aligned hiring process.
  • Remain current on industry trends, technologies, and competitive hiring strategies.
  • Work with the People Team and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition from offer acceptance to onboarding, helping new team members feel prepared and welcomed.
  • Contribute to evolving our recruiting practices and participate in team-wide projects and process improvements.
  • Actively participate in our lean, flexible team; doing whatever is needed to keep the broader People team moving forward smoothly.

Must-Have Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in talent acquisition or recruitment, previous experience in the gaming or tech industries as a full-cycle technical recruiter is highly preferred.
  • Experience with talent acquisition software such as Rippling Recruiting, Greenhouse, or Lever.
  • Familiarity with applicant assessment tools and interview techniques used in the gaming and tech industries.
  • Experience as a full-cycle recruiter for remote or globally distributed teams.
  • Knowledge of compensation trends and the ability to discuss and negotiate compensation packages.
  • Experience with various sourcing tools, ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems), and job boards, as well as social media recruiting (LinkedIn, GitHub, BuiltIn, etc).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated application of reducing bias in recruitment practices and decision-making.
  • Nice-to-Have Qualifications & Skills

  • A genuine passion and / or interest in Chess and the gaming industry, with an understanding of the skills and qualifications required for various roles in game development and related fields.
  • Experience with labor laws, sponsorships, and global contract hiring.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • About the Opportunity

  • This is a full-time opportunity.
  • We are 100% remote (work from anywhere!).
  • We are open to applicants who can overlap with AMER business hours.
