Kemin Nutrisurance (KN) is hiring a Palatant and Protein Research & Development Manager in Des Moines, Iowa! In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of researchers with focus on product development and customer application projects. KN is the Pet Food and Rendering Technologies Division of Kemin Industries. Successful candidates will have scientific curiosity, excellent scientific skills in experiment design and data collection.
Responsibilities
- Actively identify and lead research areas for palatant and protein that could lead to new product development or process improvements.
- Work across functional groups in innovation meetings to help shape strategy and priorities for the platform in the region.
- Independently lead multiple R&D projects.
- Manage and mentor direct reports to reach goals.
- Foster a collaborative team environment.
- Manage priorities and set realistic timelines.
- Collaborate across functional groups to facilitate projects.
- Act as technical lead on multiple cross-functional teams.
- Participate in customer interactions when required.
- Participate in the evaluation of intellectual property.
- Perform literature reviews and incorporate into research strategies.
- Independently develop SOPs, research protocols, and research methods.
- Maintain accurate and detailed electronic laboratory notebooks.
- Independently perform advanced data analysis and review others' data.
- Independently develop and communicate platform research plans.
- Prepare and present research reports in multiple formats for both internal and external audiences.
- Generate scientific publications used for internal or external purposes.
- Review internal publications.
- Must adhere to laboratory standard operating procedures, documentation, and guidelines.
- Troubleshoot issues with laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- May participate in operational start-ups.
Qualifications
PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience in scientific or engineering field (Chemistry or Food Science).Master's Degree with 7+ years of relevant experience in scientific or engineering field (Chemistry or Food Science).Bachelor's Degree with 9+ years of relevant experience in scientific or engineering field (Chemistry or Food Science).Previous experience managing people (2+ years minimum) preferred.Experience with palatant and protein hydrolysate development, testing, and manufacturing highly desired.Must have a solid understanding and adherence to the Servant Leadership philosophy.Detail oriented, organized, and motivated by accomplishment.Must be able to work independently and have the ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.Ability to interact well with others in a team environment.Strong experimental design and problem-solving skills.Good written and oral communication skills, suitable for external presentations.Advanced computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.).Ability to understand and perform basic statistical analysis.Analytical lab skills.Kemin is an equal opportunity employer, and all reasonable accommodation will be considered.
