Animal Services Enforcement Officer
This safety sensitive position is responsible for enforcement of the City's animal ordinances and state laws, investigations of all animal cruelty, animal bites or attacks, controlling and caring for strays and abandoned animals, eradication of nuisance wildlife, educating public on care and laws of animal ownership.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide food, water and sterilize kennels against disease.
- Picks up abandoned or stray animals.
- Provide medical care to animals to include inoculations.
- Responds to complaints on dangerous or vicious dogs.
- Provide clerical tasks, answer phone, service calls and logs information.
- Issues warnings and court citations.
- Investigate dog or cat bites or attacks, animal cruelty or hoarding cases.
- Traps and eradicates nuisance wildlife.
- Certified euthanist, euthanizes animals and maintains records.
- Responds to emergency calls after hours.
- Maintains quarantined animals for health department officials.
- Testified in court on animal cases.
- Provides first responder care to injured animals in the field.
- Handle livestock problems.
- Operating a city vehicle is required for the essential functions.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications include:
Education and experience equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office and shop skills, plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
Must be 21 years of age to obtain ACIC certification, Valid Driver's License.
ALETA law enforcement graduate is preferred.
